What is equine therapy? What is Equine Therapy? Equine Therapy, also known as Equine-Assisted Therapy (EAT), is an experiential form of therapy that involves interactions between patients and horses. It encompasses a range of treatments that include activities with horses to promote human physical and mental health. This therapeutic approach harnesses the natural empathy and keen sensitivity of horses to provide support and growth. Why Horses? Horses are majestic creatures known for their ability to connect with humans on a deep emotional level. Their intuitive nature allows them to respond to a person’s behavior or feelings, providing immediate feedback and opportunities for reflection and growth. These attributes make them perfect companions for therapy. Benefits of Equine Therapy Equine Therapy has been shown to assist individuals dealing with: - Emotional and behavioral challenges - Stress and anxiety - Depression - Trauma and PTSD - Substance abuse - Autism spectrum disorders - Relationship issues Through tasks such as grooming, feeding, haltering, and leading a horse, individuals develop a bond with these gentle animals, leading to emotional breakthroughs and insights. This form of therapy promotes confidence, self-efficacy, communication, trust, perspective, and social skills. Our Approach At Retreat Ranch, our equine therapy sessions are carefully tailored to meet the needs of each session. With a team and well-trained horses, we create a safe, non-judgmental environment for you to explore, heal, and grow. What about accessibility? Can I bring my service animal?Unfortunately no. Please review the accessibility statement from The Retreat Ranch below. Accessibility Statement from The Retreat Ranch At Retreat Ranch, we embrace the natural, untouched beauty of our rustic ranch setting. While we aim to provide an authentic and serene experience for all our guests, we recognize that the unique characteristics of our working ranch may present certain limitations for guests with disabilities. Due to the nature of our retreat center, we are currently unable to accommodate service animals. Our ranch is home to free-ranging animals, and for their safety as well as that of service animals, we cannot allow any outside pets or animals on the premises. Our facilities, including guest accommodations and communal areas, are nestled in a landscape that celebrates its rustic roots, featuring uneven grounds and stair access. Consequently, we do not have ramps or elevators, and our bathrooms are not specifically designed for accessibility. We wish to be transparent about the challenges that individuals with certain disabilities might face at our retreat center. The entire facility is not wheelchair accessible, and individuals with mobility impairments may find it difficult to navigate the uneven terrain and stairs. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these limitations may cause. We hope that, despite these limitations, our guests can find peace and enjoyment in the natural splendor of Retreat Ranch.
